These characters are certainly different from what I've read in the re: paranormal but not by much. It's just more in depth with their sensual nature and preferences. The second book will ease your mind on the "rape" scenario, I think. The fact that both characters feel an extremely strong sexual pull towards each other, sex was inevitable no matter what form it took. In the book the hero was surprised the heroine didn't remember it happening. She thought it was a dream based on her fantasy until he told her about it with great shame. She was happy it wasn't a dream and the story moves on. I guess it takes a certain open mindedness and preferences to like this book. If you don't like rough sex, gay scenes, mind control, pain, death in battle...then this series is not for you.However, if you like hot sexy alpha's, a strong and funny heroine, more hot side characters, and very well written and engaging dialogue! Then give this series a go. This entertained me like Kresley Cole...and JR Ward books.
I'm up to book five and haven't been bored yet.
Lots of action, drama, love and humor all rolled into one. Fantastic character developments also. Did I mention fast paced? Yeah that too. Give it a go.

Sasha has always been a little off kilter, you could say. Strange things happen to her, like being the only survivor of a 5 car accident as a young child. She remembers none of it but that night changed her life, landing her in foster care. She occasionally sees things that others don't. Sometimes these things are hiding out in the shadows, lurking there just waiting for unsuspecting victims. While some would feel afraid of them, she's not, whatever they are. And all too soon she and her boyfriend, Jared, have a run-in with these shadows. Turns out they look like super huge guys with ripped bodies and bulging muscles. The first encounter with these guys leaves Sasha fighting for her life while Jared is under some weird compulsion. It doesn't seem to work on her though. In the middle of it all, the Boss of these guys shows up and saves them. He doesn't understand anything about Sasha. She's very different and keeps landing on his front doorstep. Instead of inspiring fear in her, she keeps looking for him. The Boss and those that are like him are something like what we would think of as vampires. And the Boss holds a certain interest in Sasha. She is no doubt special. She is able to access and use magic, even though she is a human and has never been trained before. This is something he must look into further, while trying to keep himself away from. But she just makes it so hard.
This is a great, shorter read! I loved it! It was fun and entertaining, but sexy as well. Into the Darkness has a fascinating story line about a girl who cannot feel close to anyone because that would be showing people who she really is. People wouldn't accept her if they knew all of the things she saw and did. They would have her locked up in a mental facility. Even her own boyfriend doesn't know the extent of it for a good while, but realizes before the end of the book that she is nowhere near crazy. It's not a life Sasha asked for, but it is a life that she could be herself and be more accepted even if those accepting her aren't exactly humans. There are some complications that go along with being what she is though. For one thing, she now has a body guard that not only wants to constantly put the moves on her, but is a chatty kathy. He's the equivalent of a 16-year-old boy. And then there's that weird connection she has with the Boss man. It is most definitely reciprocated too. And last, but definitely not least, there are those creepy nasty looking guys that keep trying to get Sasha to join their side. Yep, just a little complicated. The question is whether it's worth it for her? She and Jared are constantly in danger. Even the Boss has some scary moments, but this is acceptance of who she is.

I don't know why I even read this book, I wanted to end it after the first 3 pages. This story was awful because it was full of the vampire type characters who released Pheromones to get anyone to sleep with them. In the very beginning there was guy and guy action with the main character's boyfriend, The whole book was like one giant orgy and was full of these people raping whom ever they want whether is is a guy or a girl, they didn't care. The main character was the best of them all, I liked her because she was strong and determined to protect her friends and loved ones. She felt and instant pull toward Stephan who feels the same and tries to stay away but he can't. When she was unconscious from a near death experience he rapes her, in a sense. I really will not finish this series and am appalled that people actually enjoy this kind of crap. I guess if they wants a shock factor in their books than this is the right one. FYI it's takes a lot for me to give a book 1 star.
This book seems typical of many first books in a series--it's a bit slow while laying the foundation for the rest of the series. There are some fresh ideas whether it's upending the folklore of vampires or weaving magic into these supernatural beings. The sexual content may catch some readers by surprise and may even chase a few readers away, but in context for the world and character building it becomes an understandable and necessary part of the story. The lead characters diverge enough to keep them unique. Stephan seems to have some inner demons and a bit of mystery surrounding him. Sasha is a bit immature and naive, but seems to be on a trajectory to grow. Charles is an interesting side-kick whose conflict of physical age versus mental/emotional age is well done--yes he acts like the teenage boy he is even though by human standards he's a man. The audiobook is well done and a good addition to the ebook. Readers who don't mind raunchy, snarky, and funny stories or characters will enjoy this book. Readers who prefer less racy novels may be better off looking for a different book.
Disturbing. Couldn't get past the rape of the boyfriend, in which the girlfriend watches and has zero reaction except to be turned on by the leader of the attackers, suddenly desiring him for herself? When she returns home with her boyfriend, he graphically and forcefully demands sex with her and all she can think is "finally! I've been hoping for a change like this in him!" (my paraphrase) I was disturbed by the initial chapters and promptly deleted it from my .
